Exercise bands for back pain ยท St. Louis

Exercise bands for back pain: gentle resistance for a stronger core and hips

Exercise bands are elastic, either latex or latex-free, and they make the moves on your home sheet a bit harder. For a back patient, they let the hip and core muscles get stronger without lifting heavy weights. Each color stands for a different strength.

Your physician decides whether you need this and writes the order. We fit it to you before you leave.

What is it?

We give you a band at the strength your physician sets and show you each exercise that uses it.

How does it help a sore back?

Muscle adapts to the load you give it. A back program that never gets harder stops making you stronger. Bands let you add load in small, safe steps, such as a band around the knees during a bridge to wake up the side hip muscles.

Stronger hips and a stronger core take strain off the lumbar spine every time you stand, lift or climb stairs.

How should it feel?

Steady tension as you move. Move slowly in both directions, and do not let the band snap back.

How do you use it and care for it?

Loop the band through the hinge side of a door that is shut, or hold it under your foot. Look it over for nicks and tacky spots every time, and toss it if you see any. Store it out of the sun and away from heat. Itching, a rash or hives where it touched you means stop and call.

When should you call us?

  • Have a latex allergy? Tell us and we hand you a latex-free band

We show you how to put it on or set it up, how to use it and how to take it off, and you show us before you go home. Call (314) 886-5904 if it hurts, does not fit or stops working.
