Back brace for lower back pain: support while you heal, not a replacement for muscle
A back brace circles your waist and low back and has a stiffer panel over the spine. It supports the lumbar spine while it heals, mostly when you sit for a long time, stand for a long time or lift. We fit it to your size and fine-tune how it sits.
Your physician decides whether you need this and writes the order. We fit it to you before you leave.
What is it?
Your physician orders the brace and how long to wear it. We fit it, coach you through getting it on and off, and hand you written steps to keep.
How does it help a sore back?
A brace takes some load off the low back during the tasks that hurt most. It can make a long car ride or a work shift easier while a flare settles.
Worn all day for weeks, a brace can let the deep core muscles get lazy. That is why you keep doing your home exercises while you wear it, and why your physician sets how long you use it.
How should it feel?
Snug, not tight. You should be able to take a deep breath and slide two fingers under the edge.
How do you use it and care for it?
A thin, close-fitting shirt goes under it; bare skin does not. Unless your physician says otherwise, it comes off for showers and for sleep. Check your skin each morning and each night.
When should you call us?
