Kinetisense motion test for back pain: turning stiffness into numbers

Kinetisense is a 3D camera system that scores how you bend, twist and balance, with no wires or markers on your body. For back pain, it turns “it hurts to bend over” into numbers you and your physician can track.

A physician at Back Pain STL decides whether you need this test and orders it. You only have it if it is ordered for you.

What is it?

Facing the camera, you follow simple prompts: bend forward, lean back, twist, and balance on one leg. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Why does it matter for back pain?

People with back pain often move around it without noticing: they bend at the knees, shift their weight to one side, or stop short of a full twist. The camera catches those patterns and measures them.

Repeating the test at re-checks shows real change in how your back moves, not only how it feels that day.

What does it feel like?

Like following a coach through a few simple moves. Nothing touches you.

How do you get ready?

Wear fitted clothes you can move in freely.

What should you tell us first?

  • If standing without anything to hold is unsafe for you, say so, and we adjust the test
